Boris Becker’s former coach Ion Tiriac has stated there is no doubt that Novak Djokovic is a great player and a great worker but he is not Rafael Nadal. Tiriac opined that Novak Djokovic made a fatal mistake by not getting vaccinated.
In fact, the Serbian had drawn a lot of flak from the Tennis fans when he decided to not get vaccinated. Djokovic also could not take part in the Australian Open as he was not inoculated against Covid-19 and he was deported from the country after a lot of controversies.
It is also known that Djokovic also receives less support from the Tennis fans as compared to other two members of the Big Three due to his temperament on the court.
On the other hand, Rafael Nadal recently clinched his 14th Roland Garros title by beating Casper Ruud in the final in straight sets. The Spaniard also defeated Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal of the French Open 2022.
“Nadal is Nadal, and at Roland Garros there is no one like him. And on the other hand, I think Djokovic has made a fatal, fatal mistake with the issue of the vaccine. Fatal. For his image and all that, a shame, because he is a sensational player,” Tiriac said in an interview with claytennis.in.
“He wants to be a personality, but he doesn’t have the charisma of McEnroe or Nastase. So it’s a little more difficult. But without a doubt he is a great player and a great worker. But it’s not Nadal,” Tiriac concluded.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic will look to clinch his 21st Grand slam title by going all the way at the upcoming Wimbledon. The Serb had won at SW19 in 2021 after beating Matteo Berrettini in the final.
On the other hand, Rafael Nadal’s participation in Wimbledon is expected to be confirmed on Friday.
Wimbledon 2022 will begin on June 27.
