German Tennis player Angelique Kerber has admitted that she will need to be at the top of her game and play her best Tennis against the number one seed Ash Barty in the Wimbledon 2021 semifinal. Kerber had won the grass court tournament back in 2018 when she defeated Serena Williams by 6-3, 6-3.
Kerber needed only 1 hr and 15 minutes to win her quarterfinal clash against 19th seed Karolina Muchova of Czech Republic by 6-2, 6-3. Thus, Kerber has the confidence under her bag before the big match against Barty.
On the other hand, Ashleigh Barty also had an easy win against Ajla Tomljanović as the Australian won by 6-1, 6-3 in her quarterfinal clash.
“Against Ash, I know that I have to play my best tennis,” Angelique said. “She has a lot of confidence right now. She played well. I know that I have to play my own game. I have to just think how to play, be aggressive, and try to take the match more in my hands and go for it. Even if I miss a few shots, I have to stay there and try to push her.”
This is the fourth time when Kerber has made it into the last four of the Wimbledon and she will aim to go all the way.
“I just try to continue my play on grass. Having, of course, the confidence from last week (Bad Homburg title), coming here with a title in my bag, gives me also confidence that grass is really my surface,” Angelique told wtatennis.com.
The German added that winning Wimbledon means a lot to her as she has been following the tournament since she was a little girl.
“Of course, it’s a good feeling already to have the (Wimbledon) trophy at home and to win it here,” Angelique said. “I think it’s more about this tournament for me, because when I was a kid I really looked forward to playing this tournament well, and playing my best tennis here.
“Now I’m back. I’m coming (back) after a really tough time. I was not playing good the last few months. Now winning last week’s tournament at home, now playing well here again, that means a lot to me.”
Ash Barty and Angelique Kerber will take on each other on Thursday.
