Australian Tennis player John Millman has called for Novak Djokovic’s inclusion in the upcoming US Open. According to the current immigiration rules of the country, Djokovic cannot travel to the US as he has not received his dose against Covid-19.
Many experts reckon that the Serb should be allowed to take part in the New York Major. Millman revealed that he is down with Covid-19 and also disclosed that not many people in the US were adhering to the rules and guidelines.
Millman said that US Open allows unvaccinated American athletes to compete and he don’t see why the Serbian can’t come and compete.
“I’m out with covid. I was just in the states and it didn’t really feel like too many were following any recommendations or guidelines there. Which is fine, but therefore I can’t see then why @DjokerNole can’t come and compete,” Millman tweeted.
“Let me be clear. If everyone in the country was following guidelines then I’m all for them enforcing a vax entry policy. But from what I saw pretty much no one was, the tournament allows non vax citizens to play and only 30% have had a booster,” Millman stated.
On the other hand, Novak Djokovic was earlier deported from Australia as he was unvaccinated from Covid-19 but had received medical exemption to take part in the first Slam of the year. Djokovic has clarified he would not take the jab even if it costs him the opportunity to take part in the major tournaments.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic’s coach Goran Ivanisevic revealed that the Serb will do everything to take part in the New York Major.
Goran said in an interview with La Repubblica, “Novak will do everything to be there, maybe he will get a special visa. But there are only two weeks. And, personally, I have zero hope that [Joe] Biden will change the rules before the tournament starts.”
US Open will kickstart from August 29.
