Former World No. 10 Juan Monaco has claimed the love for Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer is much stronger than the love which Novak Djokovic has generated during his career. There is no doubt that Nadal and Federer have received more love from tennis fans for their gentlemanly behavior on the court.
Djokovic, on the other hand, has been involved in numerous controversies, which has taken a toll on his fan following. Monaco admitted Novak Djokovic will end his career with most titles among the Big Three but he might never receive the same love as Nadal and Federer have done.
The Serbian continued his impressive show as he defeated Casper Ruud to win Roland Garros, which was his 23rd Grand Slam title. Ergo, he became the most successful tennis player in terms of the number of Majors. Roger Federer finished his career with 20 Slams and Rafael Nadal, who is currently out of action due to injury, has won 22 Slams.
“I don’t think so, no. I think he stopped fighting for that a while ago. He’s very happy with what he has,” said Juan Monaci in an interview with Clay.
“Obviously if Djokovic keeps winning trophies and Grand Slams he can be the greatest in history, but there is something undeniable which is the way Rafa and Roger changed tennis. They will always have a much bigger place reserved in the heart of the tennis fan than Djokovic.
“No disrespect to Djokovic, who may be the greatest in titles, but the love for Rafa and Roger is much stronger than the love that Djokovic generated.
“Djokovic is going to win more than them. But there is a distance in what Rafa and Roger generate, in the love of the fan.”
Novak Djokovic will chase his 24th Grand title in the upcoming Wimbledon, which starts on Monday. Djokovic has won seven Wimbledon titles in his career so far.
