Spanish tennis star Garbine Muguruza has developed into a very popular figure worldwide with her exceptional strokeplay. The two-time Grand Slam winner is currently participating at the WTA 500 Melbourne 2021 event. This is more like a preparatory event ahead of the Australian Open.
The Spanish started the tournament brightly as she won against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets.
After winning the match the 2017 US Open winner highlighted how it is different from any other tennis seasons. She also praised the effort taken up by the authorities to organize the events under such circumstances. However, the former World No.1 also stated that she felt weird playing at the same venue which will host the first Grand Slam of this season in a few days.
Muguruza stated, “I have the chance to play in a tournament before. It’s too long to be here but it’s great and exciting with all the efforts they’ve put together to make it happen. I’m just trying to adapt, by playing a tournament in the club where you’re going to play a Grand Slam after. It feels weird. But it’s a good problem to have, no bad energy.”
The 27-year old went on adding how she feels blessed to be practicing on the same courts which will soon be in use at the Australian Open. She feels that it will give her the added time to adjust to the conditions in Melbourne.
“I mean I cannot compare it to anything else. It’s a different circumstance. I feel I was lucky to have enough time to play on the courts and to prepare in the same place the Grand Slam is going to happen,” the Spaniard added.
Muguruza will be up next against American young sensation Sofia Kenin at the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 Melbourne 2021. It will be a very exciting game as Kenin won last year’s Australian Open and is very familiar with these conditions in Melbourne.
