Sinner and Berrettini among 2024 ATP award winners

The 2024 ATP Awards recognized some notable achievements in men’s tennis this year, honoring players across all levels for their exceptional performances throughout the season.

19-year-old Jakub Mensik was named this year’s Newcomer of the Year after a remarkable rise. He reached his first ATP final in Doha, defeating top players like Andy Murray and Andrey Rublev, and became the youngest player to beat a Top 5 opponent since Carlos Alcaraz in 2021. Mensik finished the year ranked No. 48, marking a significant milestone in his career.

The Most Improved Player of the Year was Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who earned this award after winning two ATP titles and climbing from outside the Top 200 to No. 30. His breakthrough came with a deserved victory in Lyon, where he saved a match point in the final. He also achieved five Top 30 wins during the season.

Jannik Sinner was voted Fans’ Favourite for the second consecutive year. The Italian had a stellar season, winning eight titles, including his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and another at the US Open. Sinner’s impressive performance propelled him to the No. 1 ranking, making him only the third player in the Open Era to win his first two Grand Slam titles in a single season.

Matteo Berrettini received the Comeback Player of the Year award after successfully returning from an ankle injury that sidelined him for six months. He won three ATP titles this year and made a significant comeback to rank within the Top 40.

In the WTA awards, Aryna Sabalenka was named the Player of the Year, after finishing as world number one and winning four titles, including the Australian Open and US Open. This marked her first time receiving this accolade, having achieved a remarkable 56-14 win-loss record and reaching seven finals.

Emma Navarro was named as Most Improved Player of the Year after climbing from No. 38 to No. 8 in the rankings. The American captured her first WTA title in Hobart and reached significant milestones, including the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and a semi-final appearance at the US Open.

Spain’s Paula Badosa, who returned to form after injury setbacks, earned the Comeback Player of the Year award. Badosa made a notable comeback by reaching the US Open quarterfinals and winning an ATP 500 event in Washington.
