Roger Federer reveals the challenges as he marks his comeback with a win at the Qatar Open

Roger Federer marked his comeback with a brilliant win over British tennis player Dan Evans. The comeback was long due and finally, he has made it back to the sport for the first time since January 2020.

However, the win in Doha was not so easy for the World No.6 as he huffed and puffed but finally got the better of the Briton in three sets. He won 7-6 3-6 7-5 in a tight match against Evans.

It is a huge task to make a comeback at his age, he was even new to some of the COVID-19 protocols. Therefore he reiterated the same after winning against Evans. “Incredibly happy with my level. Great to finish with a backhand down the line winner. I feel good. It’s been a long and tough road. Huge challenge to come back at my age. But I have a great team around me,” He said after winning the match.

It was a tough encounter especially when someone at 39 is out of action for 405 days. So the Swiss was very happy and loved it when he finished the game with the backhand down the line.

“Feels good to be back. I’m happy to be standing here regardless of whether I won or lost. Nice to finish with a backhand down the line, always on a match point,” the 39-year-old added.

“Important is how I feel tomorrow & next day & so forth for the next 6 months basically. Been a long tough road for me but I enjoyed it though….to come back at my age is not something that is very simple but I’ve had a wonderful team around me,” he added.

Federer looked in shape right from the first set as he was consistent with serves and also delivered seven aces. However, Dan Evans also showed some persistence and grit to not allow the Swiss maestro easy points. It was a tight first set but the 20-time Grand Slam winner prevailed in the tiebreaker. The second set totally belonged to the British tennis player who took control of it right from the start. Federer was sloppy in returning the big first serves.

The game entered the third set and it was more of the same case as in the first set as both players failed to get a break and it was heading towards a tiebreaker again. But then the 39-year-old secured the break right at the last game of the match and marked his return with a win at the ATP 250 Qatar Open.
