It has been reported that Roger Federer is doubtful to take part in the upcoming Laver Cup. Federer, who announced his retirement from professional tennis last week, had revealed that Laver Cup will be the last event on the ATP tour for him.
However, as per Federer’s fitness, and conditioning trainer Pierre Paganini, the Swiss great isn’t at the top of his fitness, which has cast a shadow of doubt on his participation.
Pierre Paganini, Federer’s fitness, and conditioning trainer told the Swiss-German newspaper Blick, “He will probably decide that at the last moment. He is trained to have as much information as possible about whether it’s a good idea or not.”
On the other hand, other Federer’s coach Severin Luthi had a different opinion and revealed that the Swiss Maestro will look to take part in at least one of the events – either singles or doubles in the Laver Cup for Team Europe.
“His aim is to play something – whether it’s singles or doubles we’ll have to see, but his aim is still to play at the Laver Cup – definitely. We have three hours in the morning. Trained and in the afternoon another two hours of training, I want to do my job well there,” said Luthi.
Federer arrived in London on Sunday and he will look to end his glorious career on a high. Tennis fans all across the globe will also want to see him in action for the one final time in his professional career
If Federer fails to achieve his fitness, then Italy’s Matteo Berrettini will replace him for Team Europe. Laver Cup will begin on September 23. Federer has had a glorious career, winning 20 Grand slam titles and a total of 103 titles.
