Roberto Bautista Agut accepts playing Novak Djokovic for a place in the Wimbledon final is a huge challenge but is sure he can make it uncomfortable for the Serb.
Defending champion Djokovic is going for his fifth Wimbledon title this year and has rarely looked ruffled at this year’s championship.
The world number one has dropped one set, in the third round, against Hubert Hurkacz but otherwise has been in imposing form, crusing past David Goffin for the loss of only six games to set up his meeting with Bautista Agut.
The Spaniard reached his first Grand Slam semi-final with victory over Guido Pella in the last eight and had arranged to be on his stag do this weekend. Those plans will have to wait with Bautista Agut much happier to stay in London and seek to beat Djokovic.
He has won their two most recent meetings and is confident that he can make life uncomfortable for the top seed. He said: “He is the champion but I want to go out and win the match. I do not think I intimidate him but I am sure I am uncomfortable for him.
“There are times when I put him against the ropes. I think it is going to be similar to the matches I have played against him in the past.” Overall Djokovic has a 7-3 winning record against Bautista Agut but, for his part, he is fully aware of the threat his opponent presents.
The Serb said: “It is not easy to play against him on grass. This surface corresponds to his style. “He has a good forehand and backhand, is good physically and mentally, he is very tough, calm and he knows how to react under pressure.”
Bautista Agut is at 8.00 to win through to Sunday’s Wimbledon final with Djokovic 1.06. In the other semi, Rafael Nadal is 1.67 to beat Roger Federer 2.15.
