Legendary Rafael Nadal is all set to make his highly-anticipated return to the tour. The veteran Spaniard has confirmed that he will make a comeback to action in Brisbane. Nadal had to miss the 2023 season after he suffered a hip injury in the second round of the Australian Open while facing America’s Andrew McDonald.
Ahead of the Roland Garros 2023, a tournament which Nadal has won on 14 occasions, the experienced campaigner announced he is taking an indefinite break from the game. Nadal also revealed that 2024 will be the final season for him on the tour.
Nadal has now regained full fitness and he is all set to make his return to action. The 22-time Grand Slam champion will aim to hit the ground running in Australia.
“I don’t think I deserve to end like this,” Nadal had earlier said in a video posted on social media. “I believe I have worked hard all my sports life. So, that my end isn’t here at a press conference. I am going to finish my career in the right way.”
“Hello everyone. After a year away from competition, it’s time to come back,” Nadal said in Spanish in a video that has garnered millions of views. “It will be in Brisbane the first week of January. I’ll see you there.”
This is the second time when Nadal will compete in Brisbane. He last played in the event back in 2017, when he lost to Milos Raonic in the quarterfinal clash in three sets.
Players like Holger Rune, Ben Shelton, Grigor Dimitrov, and Nadal’s former rival Andy Murray will also compete in Brisbane.
Nadal will aim to end his career on a high in 2024 and as always one expects him to give his all on the court.
