Former World No.1 Andy Murray is looking forward to a chance of playing with Roger Federer in the upcoming Laver Cup. Both Murray and Federer will represent Team Europe in the Laver Cup, which will be played in London from September 23.
Federer on Thursday revealed that Laver Cup will be his last professional event as he decided to call time on his glorious career.
Meanwhile, Murray and Federer played some of the big matches of their respective career against each other. Both of them played 25 matches, in which Federer had a 14-11 advantage in the head-to-head battle.
Murray won the 2012 London Olympics gold after beating Federer while the Swiss Maestro defeated the Brit in the final of 2012 Wimbledon, 2008 US Open final, and 2010 Australian Open final.
“Maybe I (will) get the opportunity to share a court with him in doubles or something like that. That would be really special,” Murray said as quoted by Reuters.
“I don’t know how much he will be able to play. I haven’t spoken to him about that.”
“I was lucky to get to compete against him in some of the biggest matches, in the biggest tournaments, on the biggest stages in our sport,” added Murray, who last played Federer competitively in 2015 in the semifinal of Cincinnati Masters.
“At the time I probably didn’t appreciate it as much, but looking back, it’s pretty amazing… It’s a sad, sad day for the sport.”
Meanwhile, Federer ticked all the right boxes in his tennis career of 24 years. The legendary player played 1526 matches, winning 1251, stayed at number one rankings for 310 weeks, and won a total of 103 titles. Furthermore, he never retired during a match in his career.
