Greek Tennis sensation and the French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas was stunned in the first round of Wimbledon by America’s Frances Tiafoe. Tsitsipas once again had to take on the American in the second round of ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020 but he was able to come up with his best on this occasion.
The 22-year old Greek won his second round convincingly against Tiafoe in straight sets by 6-3, 6-4 and finished the match in only 78 minutes. Tsitsipas admitted that it was a very balanced game mentally for him as he was able to tick the right boxes and took his revenge against Tiafoe.
The World No. 4 had to deal with different conditions as a second round clash after Storm Nepartak forced the closure of the Centre Court at the Ariake Tennis Park.
“There was [a different feel] yeah,” admitted the world number four. “I enjoyed playing under the closed roof. The court kind of felt quicker, but that didn’t stop me from playing the game I wanted to play.
“I’m always trying to find solutions, find ways to fix my mistakes and get a better outcome – that was the case today.
“I was able to maintain the high levels of concentration and deliver good tennis in moments where I had to. It was a very-well balanced game, mentally.”
Tsitsipas will now face either Frenchman Ugo Humbert or Miomir Kecmanovic in the third round of Tokyo Olympics and will aim to make his way into the quarterfinal of the event.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas had come up with an inspiring run at the French Open but he could not go past Novak Djokovic despite winning the opening two sets in the final and he will look to clinch his maiden Gold medal at the Olympics.
