Tennis coach and analyst Darren Cahill believes if anyone can stop Novak Djokovic it is Rafael Nadal. Djokovic has been in red-hot form in the recent past and he is playing at another level altogether. The Serbian is playing at the top of his game and he looks almost invincible in his current form.
Djokovic has already won all the three slams of the year – Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon in the ongoing season. Thus, the World No.1 is looking all set to record Golden Slam as well as Calendar slam.
Meanwhile, the Next-gen players have played well against Djokovic but they still haven’t got the experience and stamina to topple the Serb in the five-set matches. However, one gets the feeling that Rafael Nadal can put the brakes on Djokovic in the US Open.
Djokovic recently defeated Nadal in the semi-final of the Roland Garros in an epic four set match. Nadal has all the experience under his belt and he shares a great rivalry against Djokovic. Both of them have always challenged each other and have pushed themselves to the limits.
“Nadal will try to stop Djokovic. If anyone can stop him, it’s him,” Cahill said. “Rafa loves to play in New York. He likes the playing conditions where the ball bounces high and he also had a lot of success there.”
“He will first play in Cincinnati, Canada and Washington,” Cahill added. “He will prepare well on these hardcourts and he will be ready to take up the challenge of stopping Djokovic.”
Djokovic is all set to represent Serbia in the Tokyo Olympics whereas Nadal will be seen in action in the Citi Open in Washington ahead of the US Open.
