After Roger Federer announced his professional retirement, Rafael Nadal revealed that he is in the final stretch of his career. However, Nadal went on to reveal that he is not yet thinking about calling it a day.
Meanwhile, Roger Federer teamed up with great friend Rafael Nadal in the Laver Cup doubles match on Friday at the O2 Arena, London against the American duo of Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. The legendary pair lost the match, which brought curtains down on a glorious career of the Swiss Maestro.
On the other hand, Nadal has been struggling with his injury woes. The Spaniard was once again troubled by a chronic foot injury before winning French Open and he had to pull out of Wimbledon due to an abdomen injury.
Nadal said while speaking to COPE, “I know that the moment of my retirement will come within ‘x’ or ‘x’ plus a little, but with 36 years and a half we are in the final stretch of my career. But now I neither consider it nor do I want to consider it,” he said.
In fact, Nadal was also seen to be emotional after Federer let out his emotions following his last competitive match. The Spaniard revealed he wasn’t reflecting on his career at that moment.
“Nothing, zero. My emotion was not because of that, but because of the appreciation I feel towards Federer,” he said.
Nadal went on to reveal that Federer had told him about his retirement before making the public announcement on his social media accounts.
“He told me ten days before announcing it but I didn’t even know if he could play the doubles, because of the knee. We postponed the conversation a week later, and he also knew that, due to my situation, I cannot be away from home for a long time. The only thing I could say to him is ‘confirm that you are going to play to manage it everything, and as little, as I can, I will be with you, play or not play,” he said.
Meanwhile, after playing his doubles match with Roger Federer, Nadal had withdrawn from Laver Cup with Cameron Norrie replacing him.
