The Australian Open is in full swing and World No.1 Ashleigh Barty has already progressed to the third round without dropping a set. In the second round, she defeated her compatriot Daria Gavrilova 6-1, 7-6.
Although the Australian was taken to the tiebreaker in the second set she hardly broke a sweat and was fairly comfortable with the match. Even though she committed a total of six double faults, she also delivered seven aces to seal off the match.
Barty in the post-interview shared her views on her second set troubles, the importance of the fans in her performance and much more. All of this discussion was enjoyed by former World No.1 tennis star Andy Roddick. Who mentioned it in a tweet showing his love and appreciation for the Australian tennis star.
“I like Ashleigh Barty…. don’t know her at all,” tweeted the former American player.
Roddick mentions how he does not know Barty and has not had a chance to interact with the current World No. 1 but just by watching her gameplay and her interviews the American is impressed. The fans have obviously made this thing viral as they are also confused that Roddick’s statements are based on Barty’s exceptional performance on the court or her smart replies off it.
Also, this is not the first time that the former US Open winner has expressed his appreciation for Barty and therefore the fans have found it special for such a top player to take time and appreciate someone else.
Barty has not responded to the appreciation from Andy Roddick but fans are eager to watch how she reacts to it. Also considering her habit of coming up with witty replies, the Australian will surely find something cheeky to come up with.
Ashleigh Barty will next face Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round of the Australian Open 2021. The local star has huge expectations and also the backing of the local crowd and she will hope that the positive energy will spur her forward in this major. Also with defending champions Sofia Kenin out, the chances for Barty has increased a fair bit.
