The 2025 Indian Wells Open concluded on Sunday with finals in both the men’s and women’s singles competitions, featuring standout performances from two winners who may not have been predicted at the start of the event.

Jack Draper made history by winning his first ATP Masters 1000 after dominating Holger Rune in the final, securing a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory. Draper’s path to the championship included a stunning upset over Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. Alcaraz, who had been undefeated at Indian Wells for nearly three years, was defeated by Draper in a closely contested match that included a video review which had an effect on Alcaraz’s game, ultimately causing him to lose steam.

Draper’s victory over Rune was as a result of many things, including his impressive serves, which kept Rune on the back foot throughout the match. This win propelled Draper into the top 10 of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career. 

On the women’s side, Mirra Andreeva captured her second WTA 1000 title, and her third WTA Tour title by defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka. The 17-year-old overcame a slow start to win 2–6, 6–4, 6–3 in a match that proved she was mature and skillful beyond her years. 

The Russian became the youngest woman to reach an Indian Wells final since Kim Clijsters in 2001, and her performance on Sunday projected her as one of tennis’ rising stars.

Sabalenka took charge of the opening set with her trademark power and precision, but Andreeva adjusted her strategy in the second set, employing clever shot placement and exploiting Sabalenka’s errors under pressure. The third set saw Andreeva take control with poise, using her variety of shots to outmaneuver Sabalenka and secure victory.

Andreeva’s triumph came after defeating defending champion Iga Swiatek in the semifinals, making her the first woman to beat Swiatek at Indian Wells since 2022.
