Novak Djokovic will be representing his country at this year’s Paris Olympics in what could be his last Olympics appearance. The 2008 bronze medalist seems to have achieved every record and feat in tennis but has failed to win gold for his country, which is why he would be making his fifth appearance at the tournament.
The Serbian tried to win gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but was knocked out in the third round. at that time, it had seemed like it would be his last Olympics appearance, but he is now ready to try one last time. The year 2021 was very iconic for the 37-year-old as he had tried to win the four grand slams plus the Olympics gold in one year but had to settle for three grand slam titles.
Djokovic had to pull out from the French Open last month after a right knee injury, and as of then, his roster for the rest of the year was uncertain, including his playing at the Olympics. But it has been confirmed that he has undergone surgery and is ready to get back on the court. As of now, it is unclear whether he would play at the Wimbledon Championships or move straight to Paris for the Olympics.
The 24-time grand slam champion has had a somewhat average year, with his two outings, so far, at grand slam events yielding nothing. He has also dropped from his number one position, currently ranked number three, and could drop further if he misses any more ATP matches. But Djokovic is no stranger to challenges and at this point, a bounce back can be expected.
Joining Djokovic for Team Serbia would be fellow countryman Dusan Lajovic, who will be making his first appearance at the tournament.
