Despite being out due to injury, Rafael Nadal reaches another ATP Rankings landmark

The former World no.1 Rafael Nadal has reached another ATP Rankings landmark despite being out of action due to a foot injury. The legendary player has completed 6000 consecutive days in the top 10 of the ATP rankings. The Spaniard holds the record for most weeks in a row in the top 10 on 836 weeks.

The lefty had entered the top 10 rankings back in 2005 when he won in Barcelona and since then has been consistently part of the top 10 players. Meanwhile, Nadal had to pull out of Wimbledon and Tokyo Olympics due to injury. The 35-year old was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the semifinal of Roland Garros.

Nadal then returned to action in Citi Open in Washington but lost to South Africa’s Lloyd Harris. Unfortunately, this was Nadal’s last match of the season as he decided to pull out of the rest of the season as his foot injury resurfaced.

Nadal has recently undergone treatment and he is going through the rehab process. The Spaniard is currently placed at sixth place in the ATP rankings with 5815 points and he will look to bounce back stronger in 2022.

Nadal’s former coach and uncle Toni Nadal, revealed that his nephew is on the right path to recovery and expects him to make a strong comeback.

“Things are going better,” he told Tennis Majors about the rehab. “He has set his sights on starting in Australia. He will be fine. I’m convinced. The idea is to have the great year 2022. He will put his all into it.”

Nadal has been consistent right through his career and he will look to continue his good show in the next season.
