Bianca Andreescu reveals her admiration for tennis legend Roger Federer

It was a very tough 2020 for Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu as she missed the entire season due to persistent injury concerns. However, her points from the year earlier helped the youngster to stay in the top 10 rankings as she came back in action this season at the Australian Open.

The former World No.4 proved her mettle when she defeated the legendary Serena Williams in the finals of the 2019 US Open becoming the only Canadian to win a Grand Slam. He won three big titles in 2019 which is a testament to the fact that the youngsters on her day can be as good as they come.

The return has not favoured Andreescu as she got knocked out of the second round at the Australian Open after she lost to veteran Taiwanese tennis player Su-wei Hsieh. However she reached the semifinals of the following Phillip Island Trophy and it looked like she was getting back in the groove, Andreesu missed Dubai and Doha due to a leg injury. The 20-year-old will be making her return at the Miami Open.

“Just feeling good out there, I think that’s that main thing that’s going to help me get rid of that.”

“I am a professional athlete there’s wearing and tearing in our body, so it’s normal to have pains here and there, and it’s not like I am the only one that’s retiring from tournaments and stuff like that. So many players do the same,” said the 2019 US Open champion.

“I am feeling confident going into the event and always trying my hardest. I am the type of person to always set high expectations for myself. Now, my main goal is to be happy out there and enjoy myself as much as I can. Even if my tennis feels off, I want to take it as something I can push through and feel fulfilled after the match,” she continued as she will be returning to action at the Miami Open.

Ahead of the Miami Open, the Canadian expressed her admiration for Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer and how the maestro has inspired her to play the sport. However, Andreescu also admitted that she has never met Federer in person.

“I never met Roger Federer. I might have taken a picture with him when I was little; I don’t remember. But I’ve seen him play ever since I was little. He’s such a great role model for me, as well, for many people. He’s given tennis a lot. He’s one of the best of all time,” the 20-year old revealed.
