Former World no.1 Kim Clijsters is motivated by the way Andy Murray has made a comeback to professional Tennis. Murray suffered an almost career-ending hip injury in 2017 but didn’t throw in the towel and made a comeback at the top level. The Brit worked hard during the rehab process and he is slowly getting back to form.
In fact, there is also a documentary on Andy Murray’s injury and his road to recovery – Resurfacing, which is truly inspiring. Murray has often talked about his struggled and he has remained open-minded about his massive injury, which has inspired the other players.
Meanwhile, Clijsters is looking to make a comeback and she would be seen playing in the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic, a WTA 500 event.
“I’ve been practicing for a long time so I’m excited to start playing matches again,” Clijsters said in her pre-tournament press conference. “That’s the reason I’m here, to play more matches so I can slowly build my level and get more match rhythm and match routine under my belt. “I feel like in practice I’m doing a lot of things well and I’m getting fitting and stronger. Now it’s just a matter of trying to get enough matches.”
The Belgian is now 38 years old and there is no doubt it won’t be easy for her. The former World no.1 has won four slam titles in her career. Clijsters opened on how Murray’s inspiring comeback has motivated her.
“Seeing Andy Murray and the way he speaks about his comeback and everything, it’s so motivating and it gives you a lot of energy too,” Clijsters explained. “To see him go through the things he’s gone through and be open about the challenges of it and the belief that he has, I feel like it’s something I can relate to.”
On the other hand, Murray recently made it to the quarterfinals of the Moselle Open in Metz where he lost to Hubert Hurkacz. The Briton is placed at 109th place in the ATK rankings.
