World number one, Judd Trump has once again placed his name in the record books. The English man has been spectacular of late, firing on all cylinders and sneaking his way into places that matter. Juddernaut is easily the best snooker player for the last two seasons, and by a distance too. He’s brought every stronghold in the game to their knees, including veteran, Ronnie O’Sullivan.
The 2020 Champions League runner up has equalled Stephen Hendry’s century break of 775. With this century break, he’s now joint-third with the legend on the all-time list of highest century break in the cue ball sport. The recent winner of the German Masters showed the stuff he was made off, hitting the 100 century mark in style.
The English genius made this record in his 3-2 Champions League defeat to Jack Lisowski. Lisowski was Trump’s opponent in this recent German Masters success. However, the world number one failed to replicate what went down in that final. After five frames, the pendulum bob swung in Lisowski’s side of the divide.
The former world champion is now within arm’s reach of second place John Higgins who has made an astonishing 822 centuries. As expected, Ronnie O’Sullivan leads the lineup with an intimidating 1079 centuries. Trump has a chance of leapfrogging Higgins on the standings when he takes on Kyren Wilson. Can he do that against the 2020 Champions League winner? Only time will tell.
Trump must have been licking his lips at the thought of facing a familiar enemy in Jack Lisowski having met him in the German Masters and World Grand Prix events. But it was Lisowski who had the last laugh. The 29-year-old avenged his final defeats to the world number one by coming from behind twice to force a deciding frame. Then, took the win where it mattered the most.
Elsewhere, Lisowski locked horns with Tom Ford and succumbed to a 3-0 defeat. The Englishman was completely toothless and watched Ford tear him limb after limb to claim victory in the round robin fixture. Ford is now poised to play Barry Hawkins. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and wait to see who comes out tops.
