With Shawn Murphy, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and a host of other big names out of the way, John Higgins would fancy his chance of taking the World Open’s prize.
Higgins left nothing to chance as he took Mark Davis to the cleaners. It was such a chilling win for Higgins that he was caught on several occasions touching his face during breaks.
Elsewhere, Judd Trump was in action against Liang Weibo. Trump made it a remarkable encounter by recording his 642nd century. However, he still has a long way to go if he has any plans of equalling or surpassing Ronnie O’Sullivan’s record of 1019 centuries.
The game didn’t come so easy for Juddernaut, though. The first four frames were split between Judd Trump and his determined opponent. Fans of Trump had their hands on their heads the whole time, wondering if an end had come to Trump’s quest.
This was especially true when Liang Wembo took the fifth frame. It was 3-2, and the game was slowly slipping away from the hands of the reigning World Champion.
However, Juddernaut, willing to give his fans a good treat, took the sixth frame with a magical touch. A 129 clearance meant Trump was raining down centuries.
With the game drawn at 3-3, you get the feeling that whoever wins the next frame would grab the winner. Unfortunately, that was the end of the road for Liang Wembo as Judd Trump marched into the last-16 with a fine 5-3 win.
In one of the round two encounters, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh succeeded at clinching his spot in the next round. The former did it in style, running out 5-2 over his opponent. The Thai professional is on fire and could give the big stars a run for their money.
The Thai who got his name the Speed King for his tag as the fastest snooker player on the World Snooker tour is now set to face Sunny in the next round.
Kyren Wilson was also in action against Hossein Vafaei. The latter ran into a 2-1 lead after conceding defeat in the first frame. After seven frames, the game was put at 4-3 in favour of the Iranian before Kyren pulled out a century and closed the game on the decider.
Judd Trump is backed at 1.25 to win Joe Perry, while Perry is available at 3.65.
