One of the things that make the world of UFC very interesting is seeing fighters call out each other, and it is a trend that would not just die out. The latest callout comes from Paulo Costa, who recently took to social media to challenge Jan Blachowicz for a fight at UFC 288.
However, Blachowicz had a surprising response to Costa’s challenge. In a recent interview, he revealed that he had actually been offered a fight with Costa a few days earlier, but Costa turned it down.
Blachowicz, who is a former UFC light heavyweight champion, seemed perplexed by Costa’s behavior, saying, “I’ve said yes, he said no. The fight is off. How much juice does he need? One bottle of wine is enough to knock out this guy.”
Costa, who had previously expressed an interest in fighting Khamzat Chimaev in October, responded to Blachowicz’s comments on social media, but it remains to be seen if the two fighters will ultimately square off in the octagon.
The UFC 288 card, scheduled for May 6 in Newark, N.J., recently lost its co-main event between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush. While UFC President Dana White said the promotion is still working on finding a new co-main event, it is unclear if Costa vs. Blachowicz will be the replacement fight.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding this potential matchup, fans are eagerly anticipating the next UFC event and the exciting fights that are sure to take place. Fighters like Costa and Blachowicz continue to push the boundaries and test their skills against the toughest opponents, inspiring the next generation of MMA fighters to follow in their footsteps.
It remains to be seen if Costa and Blachowicz will face off in the octagon, but one thing is for certain – the world of mixed martial arts is always full of surprises, and fans can expect more thrilling matchups in the future.
