Francis Ngannou got his revenge against Stipe Miocic, knocking him out in the second round of their UFC 260 main event heavyweight title fight on March 27. Ngannou proved that he’s more than just brute force, he is an intelligent fighter that made an adjustment. Miocic came out on top in their first bout, putting an end to Ngannou’s heavyweight title dreams with a lopsided decision victory at UFC 220 on January 20, 2018 but “The Predator” got payback.
At the post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Ngannou’s first title defense will be against former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, if “Bones” want it. Jones and other UFC stars reacted to Ngannou’s win:
“Show me the money,” Jones tweeted after Ngannou scored the big knockout against Miocic. During the post-fight press conference, White said that he’d flee to 185 pounds if he were Jones. Jones responded to that by tweeting: “Go to 185? I didn’t gain all this weight for no reason.”
Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov tweeted: “Congratulations Africa. Now you have 3 UFC champions” and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya tweeted: “THRE KINGS!!” in reference to the three African-born UFC champions: himself, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Ngannou. Then, he tweeted, “F*** I’m inspired!” and “We’re taking gold back to Africa!!”
No. 5 ranked UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson tweeted: “That makes the @JonnyBones fight so much more interesting… Ngannou was calm, calculated, technical…. so exciting!! #UFC260.”
