Jake Paul put up a wonderful performance on Saturday when he defeated former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva via unanimous decision. Paul knocked down his opponent just seconds before the fight came to an end in the eighth round. The three judges scored the fight 77-74, 78-73, and 78-73 in favour of Paul.
The American YouTuber now has 6 wins from 6 fights and has now added Silva to the list of big names that he has outboxed. Paul has been able to prove himself by taking on some popular names, even though none of his opponents so far has had a boxing career. A fight that was initially supposed to be against Tommy Fury got rescheduled a few times until it was confirmed that 47-year-old Silva would be the opponent.
Speaking after the fight, Paul described how excited he felt sharing the ring with someone like Silva, as he also took some time out to call out Nate Diaz as his next possible opponent. He said: “Man, it’s a surreal moment, but hard work pays off. I feel like I’m living in a movie. You couldn’t have written this in a story.
“Just being in the ring with him, seeing his heart, his courage, his bravery, that’s the champion that I looked up to. He’s such an inspiration.”
Calling out MMA fighter, Diaz, he said, “Everyone wants that fight. Nate, stop fighting people for free. Let’s do it in the ring.”
Six wins within a space of about two years of starting his boxing career is enough to give Paul the confidence to call out people like Nate Diaz. Even though he is yet to take on any real challenger or fight for a title, Paul’s career is shaping out quite nicely, and it might not be long before he lands his first professional title.
