UFC superstar Conor McGregor is determined to acquire a soccer club.
In the past, the Irishman had expressed his interest in acquiring the Manchester United club of which he is a fan.
Now it has made it known that McGregor would be interested in acquiring Chelsea. The rumor has spread in the last few hours that Roman Abramovich is willing to listen to proposals for the Blues.
Abramovich disassociated himself from the club a few days ago due to the sanctions of the British government, who have prohibited the Russian-Israeli billionaire from entering the country.
Speculation about McGregor’s intentions comes from a tweet. In a post, McGregor shared a screenshot of WhatsApp messages which read: “Chelsea for sale £3bn.
“Let’s buy it.”
The caption of the tweet read: “I wish to explore this. @ChelseaFC.”
Apparently, as Labor MP Chris Bryant announced, Chelsea is for sale, who revealed the information using his parliamentary privilege. Abramovich is selling all his properties in London; he is doing this out of fear of receiving economic sanctions or punishments from the government.
Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss confirmed that he was offered the opportunity to buy the Blues for some £2bn.
In an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick, Wyss said:
“Like all other oligarchs, he is in a panic.
“Abramovich is trying to sell all his villas in England. He also wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly. I and three other people received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich.
“I have to wait four to five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much. You know, Chelsea owe him £2bn.
“As of today, we don’t know the exact selling price. I can well imagine starting at Chelsea with partners. But I have to examine the general conditions first.
“But what I can already say, I’m definitely not doing something like this alone. If I buy Chelsea, then with a consortium consisting of six to seven investors.”
