Lightweight star, Kevin Lee, who returned to the UFC this month in UFC 244, where he was contending for the lightweight title, has expressed his desire to face Connor MacGregor in a match, but has also said that the UFC would not allow that as the management would not let him within 10 feet of the great fighter.
Lee, who is currently ranked number 8 in the UFC lightweight division, won his November 2 match against Gregor Gillespie, has now bounced back to top form after a series of ups and downs. His victory on that night showed him as an able fighter.
However, the UFC is still not sure of his prowess and are still unwilling to field him against Connor McGregor, because they see it as a risk, feeling Lee is not prepared enough.
According to Lee, the UFC is still trying to find an opponent for McGregor ahead of his January 18 fight. Although they are thinking of settling for Donald Cerrone as an opponent, there is no formal agreement yet to that. Lee believes if Cerrone is much of a fighter just like he is, then he would have no hard time facing McGregor.
For Lee, fighting is more about moving up the ranks, rather than the monetary gain. This is due to the toll his career has suffered, losing 3 out of his 5 previous matches. McGregor’s fixture in January is expected to be a commercial due to his nature and because it has been a while since he appeared in a fight.
Still, in as much as Lee wants to have a go at McGregor, he believes it is less likely to happen. Other possible opponents he could face include Paul Felder and Anthony Pettis.
Hopefully, in the coming months, the UFC might grant Lee his desire and make a match between him and McGregor a reality.
