Alpine Star is set to make a comeback to the tracks after being away for months. Alpine Star last raced at the Prix de l’Opera, ParisLongchamp in October 2020, where she came second, losing to Tarnawa. Before then, the horse’s last win was at the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she was steered by Frank Dettori. But now, the horse is set for greater things and would look to make a return at the Pretty Polly Stakes in June. The Pretty Polly Stakes is Group 1 race open to horses that are 3 years and above.
Foaled in 2017, Alpine Star is the offspring of Sea The Moon and Sea The Star. Alpine Star started racing in 2019 and has taken part in 7 races, winning three of them and coming second in three others. Alan Cooper, who is the racing manager for the Niarchos family, where Alpine Star comes from, said about her, “Alpine Star is coming along and could resume in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh (June 27). She definitely has a top line of the form. I think we’re more than likely looking towards the second half of the season with her. I’ll be catching up with Mrs. Harrington in the next few days, but that is what we were thinking last week.”
Jessica Harrington has been the horse’s trainer for years now and she is in the best position to assess if Alpine Star is ready enough for the Pretty Polly Stakes. But make no mistakes, Alpine Star has featured in some big races in the past and performed well, particularly at the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last June where she emerged the winner. Her next three races after that all saw her finish in second place.
For a horse with such records, there is no greater way to make a comeback on the racing track than by taking part in one of the most prestigious Irish races.
