Sebastian Vettel would be racing for the first time this season at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend. Vettel has been out since the season began after testing positive for COVID-19 just at the pre-season testing ended in March. After missing two races, the German is set to get behind the wheels of the Aston Martin.
Speaking about his return, Vettel commented that he felt like he was showing up late for school but that he was ready to put the work in and get started right away: “After testing positive and missing the first two races, it feels a bit like arriving late to school, so I’m really keen to get going again. Starting my season in Australia is something I’ve done before, of course, and it’s also great that Formula 1 is returning after a difficult couple of years.”
Vettel would be returning to a team that has gain zero points so far. His teammate Lance Stroll and reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg were the ones holding it down for the team these last two races.
But his presence might help restore confidence in the team as he has won the Australian GP three times in his career. Even if he does not win it this weekend, finishing top 10 would do his team a lot of good.
Albert Park, the venue for the race in Melbourne, Australia, has had some upgrades, and this might improve the quality of the race this year, not like other years have not been good. But it is something worth looking forward to, and Stroll seems hyped about it: “I’m looking forward to sampling the revised layout and the resurfaced track, which will hopefully improve overtaking – especially into Turn 13, which has been tightened.” He also noted that the revision of the track might affect car performance, and this could go either way.
The Australian Grand Prix would hold on April 10.
