As we draw close to the start of the 2021 F1 season, teams have started releasing the cars that would take them to victory this year.
Due to the impact of the coronavirus on F1, in a bid to save cost, there are no drastic changes to this year’s cars, as they still retain the same chassis. But some of the cars have undergone some major improvements, especially in the engine section, to correct mistakes in last year’s design.
McLaren led the way as they released their car, the MCL35M last week Monday in an event that featured their new driver, Daniel Ricciardo. Alpha Tauri launched their car, the AT02 with a “new nose and a redesigned front suspension system”. The car also has a new colour scheme, with blue taking the place of white as the dominant colour this year.
Red Bull, who finished behind Mercedes last year, have also released their car for the 2021 season. The RB16B, which was launched in an online event, bore semblance to the 2020 model, the RB16 and Red Bull did not give enough information on the changes they made to the car. Alfa Romeo has also released their car, the C41, which is powered by a Ferrari engine. Alfa Romeo is one of the three teams to retain both drivers from last season and they currently hope to do better than the eighth position they finished with last year.
Aston Martin has revealed the name of their car for the 2021 season, the AMR21, which would be released in a virtual event on Wednesday, March 3. According to the team, the car would follow Aston Martin’s “trademark eye for detail, precision and innovation.” But before then, Mercedes would release their W12 on March 2. They have released little details about the car but they are confident it would earn them a consecutive eighth champions title. Williams would release their challenger, the FW43B on the 5th of March.
