Oscar Piastri has revealed that McLaren’s main goal this season is to win the constructor’s cup and this is something they will strive to achieve at any expense, even if it means foregoing Lando Norris’ dream of a world championship. The team is currently second in the Team standings, behind Red Bull, while Norris is second on the driver’s standings, 78 points behind Max Verstappen. 

Things are really looking good for the English team as they are having a series better than they hoped for, and they are in a position to finish with, at least, one of the two main titles of the season, and; according to Piastri, the constructor’s title is the team’s main objective. 

Speaking with Sky News recently, the Hungarian Grand Prix winner broke down what the team planned to do with the rest of the season and what that meant for the drivers themselves: “The first objective is to win the constructors’ for the team, and I think we’ve got a very strong chance of doing that. I think for me, the drivers’ standings, of course, I’d like to finish as high as I can. I’m not out of the running for the championship myself; it’s a very big ask, but I want to string together good races, build consistency on that front, and really help the team to win the constructors’.”

Piastri, who is currently fourth on the driver’s leaderboard, said he would be down to help his teammate fight for the world championship later on in the season, but that would be after he had done his best towards helping the team win the constructor’s title: “If it comes to a situation where I need to help Lando later in the year then, of course, it is something we’ll discuss, but the first target is to win the constructors’ and try do a good job for myself as well.”

The 23-year-old also noted how McLaren’s good season was good for his career and that his main focus was having a good run next season: “I feel like I’m growing in confidence. Getting some more good results and just learning more through my second year as well. I want to learn as much as I can and have as much success as I can this year. But ultimately, I think trying to set up a really strong run next year is a realistic target at the moment.”
