Lewis Hamilton was the third driver to cross the finish line at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, venue of the Spanish Grand Prix, on Sunday to claim his first podium finish for the season. Hamilton finished seconds after Max Verstappen claimed his seventh win of the season, with Lando Norris following at his tail.
This is the second race in a row that Mercedes will make it to the podium after George Russell finished third at the Canadian GP and this may be a sign that their car upgrades, which they have been implementing for a while, may be yielding results, as Hamilton noted after the race.
For the seven-time world champion, this is his first podium finish since last year, October, at the Mexico GP, and it is the longest drought he has ever had. He commented that the finish had given him and the team the needed boost after such a hard season they have been having so far: “Yes, a big boost to finally get a good result. It’s been a minute since I’ve been up here in the race. So a huge, huge thank you to the team who have done an amazing job to… Just with all the processes through the race weekend, but particularly everyone back at the factory for working so hard the extra-long hours to bring components to the car. and we’re slowly getting closer.”
The British driver also noted that they were improving their consistency at every face and that they would soon be in the position to put up a challenge.
Hamilton, who leaves for Ferrari at the end of the season, has failed to win a record-breaking eighth world championship title and his recent seasons has seen him go without a win. But he continues to remain hopeful with his fortune as well as with what he can achieve with his remaining months with the team.
