The 2023 F1 season is three months away, and while we know very little of what could happen when the season starts, there are a few factors that could shape how the season would turn out. The 2022 season was quite electrifying, and we can only expect next year to be better and more immersive. There are a couple of things for us to look out for.
One of the things that would truly set the 2023 season apart is the number of races we are having in the year. In 2023, F1 would host its most races in year – 23. That number could be 24 if the FIA can find a race to replace the Chinese Grand Prix, which was axed from the Calendar due to COVID issues. The 23 races would take place between March and November.
Among the races we would experience next season, the Las Vegas GP would be making its debut. It is the third race that would be held in the United States, after the US GP, which is held in Austin, Texas, and the Miami GP, which would be held for the second time. This is the second time a Grand Prix would be held in Las Vegas since 1982, and it would be taking place on a temporary circuit which features 50 laps.
The 2023 season would also feature 6 Sprint races, which is more than we have gotten in previous gets. In 2021 and 2022, we had just three Sprint weekends each. The Sprint race was introduced in 2021, and it takes place on the Saturday before a Grand Prix. It awards points and also decides who takes the pole position for Sunday’s race.
In terms of team rivalry, there is no telling how 2023 might turn out. Red Bull was miles ahead of everyone else in 2022. Ferrari, who came second both in the constructors’ championship and driver’s standing, was unable to actively challenge Red Bull and were merely helped by the fact that no other team could perform better. But they are expected to perform better next year. Mercedes also has a shot, if they manage to make a better car than the one they had in 2022.
In all, the 2023 F1 season is expected to raise the ante and deliver major thrill and excitement on all levels, and we can only wait to see how things ride out.
