The Formula 1 management has revealed that it has secured an agreement in principle to the possibility of having a race in the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team. The F1 had always wanted to host a race in the city, and it seems things might finally be falling in place.
This is not the first time the F1 would set sights on Miami as an earlier plan had even put 2019 as the start of the event. A 10-year agreement was reached between F1 and the city. But the plan was met with stiff local oppositions and had to be dropped. Part of the reason was because of the construction of new tracks and even a bridge, and since it was taking place on the street, that also raises some concern.
However, this new plan would be an all land track within a certain location, which is less likely to cause any disturbance or interruptions to the outside world. A tweet by the vice president of the Dolphins, Tom Garfinkel, has given us an insight into how the circuit would be based, which would be around the stadium, somewhere near the parking lot.
Even though both parties, F1 and Miami Dolphins, owner of the stadium, have both agreed to the possibility of the Grand Prix holding there, the reality of the event still depends on so many factors including, importantly, getting approval from the Miami-Dade County. Commissioners from the County seem to be on the side of the people, who would have always refuted.
But Garfinkel and F1 commercial boss, Sean Bratches, have come out to highlight just how much economic importance an event like the Grand Prix could have on the economy of a city like Miami, describing it as “an economic juggernaut for South Florida each year.” That is something that might influence the commissioners, who are supposed to vote for it on the 28th of October.
If the plan gets the go-ahead, it would be the second F1 event held in the US after the Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, which took off in 2012.
