England achieved a new feat on Tuesday after winning the final Test in Karachi, earning them a historic 3-0 win over Pakistan. The final day could not have gone more perfectly for England. While they needed 55 runs to win, it took them only 11.1 overs to meet their target of 167. In all, it took them just 40 minutes to claim their eighth-wicket victory. With the series win, England has become the first country to win three straight matches in Pakistan. The last time England beat Pakistan at home was in a Test match back in 2000.
England was helped on the final day with brilliant performances from Ben Duckett, who finished with an unbeaten 82, Ben Foakes, who finished with 64, and skipper Ben Stokes, who ended the day 35 no. Between Stokes and Duckett, they shared a partnership of 73, which was very integral to England’s final day success.
The first two victories at Rawalpindi and Multan were very impressive and served to show what the England squad was capable of. The third Test victory helped to seal that.
England’s outstanding victory at the test is further proof that they made the right back in January. England started the year with a complete overhaul of their cricket leadership, replacing the director, coach, and was captain of the Test team. The changes came following a string of losses that lasted more than a year, culminating in the embarrassing loss last year at the Ashes.
But in the past few months, England has made up for all the failures, and their victory at Pakistan means that they crown the year with a victory, which is very much in contrast to how they started off.
Now, they would take their time to prepare to face Australia next summer at the Ashes, which they would aim to win.
