Opening day of legal tampering in the NFL came with a bang as the Buffalo Bills surprised everyone by trading for Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
It was shocking but at the same time we should have seen in it coming from a mile away because Diggs tweeted this, hours before the trade: “it’s time for a new beginning.”
The NFL world recently found out that the Cardinals basically stole DeAndre Hopkins from the Texans and then the Bills and Vikings pull this off.
In the deal, Diggs and a seventh-round draft pick in this year’s NFL Draft will go to the Bills and the Vikings will receive a first-round pick, a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Bills were very tough to beat last season, they have a strong defense that ranked third in total yards, fourth against the pass, 10th against the run and second in points per game allowed last year. Their offense ranked eighth with 128.4 rushing yards per game and quarterback Josh Allen improved tremendously in his second year in the NFL.
Now Allen has a legitimate star wide receiver among his weapons. While John Brown and Cole Beasley were decent wideouts, the Bills were just 26th with 201.8 passing yards per game. Diggs is among the top five wide receivers in the league, he caught 63 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games last season.
Diggs has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in two straight years and he had a career-high 102 receptions in 2018. He did all that while sharing targets with fellow Pro Bowl wide receiver Adam Thielen. Now Diggs should put up much better numbers.
Playing with Josh Allen will help Stefon Diggs and vice versa. The Bills can make a leap this season and even compete for the AFC East title now that Tom Brady left the Patriots.
