Woods reveals desire to return to competing

    December 4, 2024

Veteran golfer, Tiger Woods has said that he still wants to make a return to playing at the highest levels of golf but is not quite ready to start competing just yet. For the past few years now, the former world number one has been plagued by one problem or the other with his body, following an accident back in February 2021.

Although he has made a full recovery since then, he has not been as fit as he was before the accident and has only appeared in 11 events since then. But Woods is not ready to bow out yet.

If anything, the 15-time major champion still believes he will have another chance to play like he used to, but that won’t be very soon.

“The fire still burns to compete,” Woods added. “The difference is the recovery of the body to do it is not what it used to be. I still love doing it, I love competing.

“I love competing in anything, whether we’re playing cards or we’re playing golf. No matter what it is, I love competing. That’s never going to leave.”

He made this known while speaking at a press conference ahead of the Hero World Challenge, where he is the host.

He added: “I’m not tournament sharp yet. I’m still not there. These are 20 of the best players in the world, but I’m not sharp enough to compete again.

“I am disappointed. I’m just not physically ready yet to compete at this level. The times I have come back here, I was ready to start competing and playing again. Unfortunately, not this time.”

Woods also narrated what led to him having another back surgery and how it affected his plan for the year: “I didn’t think my back was going to go like it did this year. It was quite painful throughout the end of the year, and hence, I had another procedure done to alleviate the pain I had going down my leg.”

“Whether my commitment going forward is once a month, yeah, I could say that all over again, but I truly don’t know. I’m just trying to rehab and still get stronger and better and feel better, really give myself the best chance I can going into next year.”
