Team USA has once again beaten Team International, with a final scoreline of 16-8, to win the 2019 Presidents Cup.
USA’s win is something to celebrate because they came from the back to win, taking the scoreline from 10-8 to 14-16, in favor of the US. They won eight of the twelve points available on the final day. Part of the team’s victory came from their performance in single events, and Tiger Woods wins.
Woods played an impressive game, after choosing to go against Abraham Ancer, who, before then, had gone unbeaten. The former world number 1, who was also captain of the team, made a 3&2 victory, that saw him making up to seven birdies in 16 holes, to win their first point of the day, and breaking a record of the most 3&2 in the President’s Cup and his most in a singles event.
Other players on the US side to helped them win included Dustin Johnson, who played against Haotong Li, winning two games with par. Patrick Reed also played a good game, considering how tough his week had been. He played six birdies in 7 holes, taking a back to back birdie at the last two holes for victory. Reed had to maintain with his coach carrying his bag after his caddie was banned for shoving a fan.
Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau are other players who helped drive the American team to victory, with the former making a 3&2 victory and taking his team to the lead after the international team had tried to level things. But the real moment for the USA came when it was Matt Kuchar’s turn to play. Although it ended in a tie and Kuchar only win a half-point, it did not matter as it helped improve the scoreline, which was 15-13 before.
By taking the American score to 15½, it secured the cup for the USA for the eighth consecutive time, and the eleventh time out of thirteen times the competition has taken place.
