Scottie Scheffler is gearing up for the 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club, expressing excitement about representing the U.S. team once again.
After a stellar season, including a FedEx Cup victory, he aims to improve upon his previous performance, where he went 0-3-1 in 2022. Scheffler emphasized the pride he feels in playing for his country, stating, “Coming here to foreign soil for us and trying to compete and bring back the cup, I think, will be pretty fun.” The 28-year-old was on the team that won the Cup in 2022 as well as the 2023 Ryder Cup.
While he acknowledges the team’s strong lineup, including Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, Scheffler remains focused on his individual performance, saying, “My job is to win… all I can try to do is win one point”.
The world No. 1 also noted that there are no advantages in being labeled favorites or underdogs, adding that personal motivation was of more importance than external expectations.
He said: “Can there be an advantage? I guess you could say one team would have nothing to lose if they’re the underdog, but at the same time, when you’re the underdog – I’ve been the underdog plenty of times in my career – I still wanted to win just as bad as I did when I was the favorite. That stuff, for me, never really applied too much.
“I’m probably not the best guy to ask that to. I’m internally motivated. I like to try to prove myself, almost to myself sometimes. I love coming out here and competing because it’s what I love to do.”
In addition to the Presidents Cup, Scheffler is looking forward to a made-for-TV match against LIV Golf players Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau alongside Rory McIlroy later in December. He expressed enthusiasm about competing against familiar faces, and he even described Koepka and DeChambeau as “two guys I really miss competing against.”
