The Spanish star, John Rahm, has won the Race to Dubai title by winning the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The event is the final event in the European Tour Race To Dubai, which concludes the whole tournament, and it takes place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Rahm finished the event with a 19 under par, defeating Tommy Fleetwood, the one man behind him, with a three-foot putt. The Spaniard began the final event on a good foot by making five birdies in a distance of seven holes. He later fumbled, which gave Fleetwood the advantage of catching up with him, but Rahm made up for the mistakes at the final hole with a shot that earned him his victory.
By winning the title, Rahm becomes the best player in Europe and the number three player in the world. He also becomes the second Spaniard to win the event after Seve Ballesteros, who did so a record six times. The win is also his fourth for the year and his first after defending his Spanish title back in October. By winning the event, Rahm wins a total 0f $5 million prize money.
Speaking after the match, Rahm claimed that his win could be attributed to rest as he had not played a match since winning the Spanish title in October, even claiming he didn’t touch a club for a month. And it was quite obvious in Dubai as Rahm played without a hitch. He further described the gameplay as one with “ups and downs,” making an allusion to how he started on a good foot, but almost lost out of victory as he needed a birdie to win.
As far as the year goes, Rahm has enjoyed a good one with so many victories and titles to his name, including the team title with Ryan Palmer at the Zurich Classic. He hopes to perform better next year, even as he plans to make his Olympic debut.
Fleetwood comes in at second place while Bernd Wiesberger sits at third place in the Race to Dubai standings. Robert MacIntyre clinched the Rookie of the Year title.
