Spain’s Jon Rahm has been crowned the 2024 LIV Golf Individual Champion following a stellar performance at the LIV Golf Chicago tournament. Rahm secured his title with a final round score of 66, finishing the tournament at 11 under par, three strokes ahead of fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia and Chilean competitor Joaquin Niemann. Bryson DeChambeau finished at 5 under, where he was tied with Brooks Koepka and Henrik Stenson.
At just 29 years old, Rahm’s victory marks his second win in the last three LIV tournaments, strengthening his position atop the season-long standings and earning him a substantial $18 million prize. Throughout the season, he continuously displayed great consistency, achieving twelve top-10 finishes and generally bringing his best to every game he played in, both on an individual and a team level.
Niemann initially led after the first round but faltered with a score of 68 on Saturday. Despite a flawless final round, he couldn’t catch Rahm, who delivered an impressive birdie on the par-3 17th hole to maintain his lead.
Rahm’s journey this season has not been without challenges; he balanced competitive golf with personal responsibilities, including preparing for the arrival of his third child. He’s also been dealing with being away from the PGA Tour, a move he made last December that cost him, among many things, his ranking.
In addition to his individual success, Rahm’s performance has positioned his team, Legion XIII, as strong contenders for the upcoming Team Championship in Dallas later this month. The team has earned four victories this season alone and are currently second on the leaderboard, only behind Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushes GC.
Rahm’s leadership and competitive spirit have made him a standout player and team member this season, and he is definitely one to watch out for in the league.
