Morikawa ends title drought in Japan

Collin Morikawa has triumphed at the Zozo Championship in Japan, marking his sixth PGA Tour title. The win also marked his first title in two years. His incredible performance at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba allowed him to secure a six-shot victory, finishing the tournament at 14 under par.

Morikawa, a two-time major champion, put on a stellar display during the final day. He shot a bogey-free 63, making seven birdies along the way. He began his charge with a birdie on the third hole, where his tee shot landed within four feet of the hole. Morikawa continued his birdie streak, securing three more on holes six through nine, taking a three-shot lead at the turn.

As the round progressed, Morikawa maintained his momentum, adding another birdie on the 12th hole. His putt from 15 feet at the 15th was another highlight, and he showcased his skill with an impressive par-save on the 17th. Morikawa concluded his victory with a final-hole birdie, securing a comfortable lead over his nearest competitors.

Morikawa expressed his excitement about the win, saying, “It feels incredible. Every win’s so different, and every experience. Whether it’s winning or losing, you learn a lot, but this one just meant the world.

“Obviously, having this kind of two-year drought, just struggling at times, not really contending, to do what I did through this entire week, Thursday, Friday, and then how I started my round yesterday with a double bogey — that’s the golf I miss playing. To see that and to see it again, it’s very exciting.”

Eric Cole and Beau Hossler, Morikawa’s closest challengers, both posted final-round scores of 70, securing a share of second place at eight under par. Robby Shelton delivered a strong performance with a five-under 65, earning him a share of fourth place alongside Ryo Ishikawa.

Min Woo Lee matched Shelton’s score with a 65 of his own, joining a four-way tie for sixth place. In contrast, overnight leader Justin Suh struggled on the final day, posting a four-over 74, which led to a tied-10th finish.
