Justin Thomas vows to stay focused

Justin Thomas says he must forget about his record-breaking third round at the BMW Championship to ensure he can stay focused on the final day. The 26-year-old heads into the final round with a six-shot advantage after making history in Chicago, Illinois.

Saturday’s action was heavily affected by rain but that didn’t appear to be detrimental to the American at Medinah. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama had set a new course record on Friday when he shot a nine-under-par 63, however, that only stood for 24 hours as Thomas went round in 61 on Saturday.

Thomas, who is priced at 17.00 to win the PGA Championship 2020, sits on 21-under-par courtesy of a round that included two eagles and eight birdies but he is refusing to get complacent.

The 2017 PGA Championship winner admits he was delighted with his performance but accepts he could be caught if he doesn’t focus for the final round. “I felt good about my game for a while,” he was quoted as saying by pgatour.com.

“You don’t know when something like this is going to happen, a round like this. We’ve all been talking the last couple of weeks that I’m due to have one and it’s nice when it happens. “At the end of the day, this round was great and awesome, but it’s over with and I need to go focus on tomorrow.”

American duo Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay are Thomas’ closest challengers on 15-under, while Rory Sabbatini sits one shot further back in fourth.
