Thirty-five-year-old American professional golf player, Dustin Johnson, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this Thursday.
The surgery was needed to repair a damaged cartilage. As recalled, the golfer had also undergone a right knee surgery earlier in December 2011.
Dustin Johnson, a 20-time PGA TOUR winner and currently world No. 3, had to go through an arthroscopic surgery and is expected to make a full recovery and return to the PGA TOUR this fall.
The surgical procedure was performed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. George Caldwell.
The surgery, according to Johnson’s management, is said to be routine and was similar to the surgery Dr. Caldwell performed on Johnson’s right knee back in December 2011. After the surgery, Johnson was able to return to action in mid-January of 2012.
Recall that in August, Professional golf star, Tiger Woods underwent the same surgery on his left knee in order to repair what he termed “minor cartilage damage.”
Johnson is estimated to recover and return to the game and competition by fall to play in the October 31st – November 3rd WGC-HSBC which is billed to hold in Shanghai, China.
Since starting his career in late 2007, Dustin has a number of wins including twenty PGA tour titles. But the professional golf player didn’t do so well in recent months.
Johnson comes off a successful 2018/19 season in where he won one championship in Mexico. He was also runner-up in two major Championships. In addition to that, he also secured his place for the season-ending TOUR Championship for the 11th year in a row. His recent win in Mexico continued his run of having won at least one time in every PGA Tour season since 2008.
The 2016 PGA Player of the Year holds the record for the longest run as number 1 when he ranked 1st in February 2017 and stayed up there for 64 weeks in a row.
