In a significant boost for European-based golfers, the DP World Tour has announced a record prize money of £117 million for the 2024 season, marking a substantial increase of around £3.4 million from the previous year. Alongside this financial boost, the tour is introducing a revamped schedule for the upcoming season, incorporating fresh events in Dubai and Bahrain, as well as welcoming back the China Open.
To heighten the competitive excitement, the Race to Dubai will undergo a transformation, divided into three distinct phases throughout the year. Keith Pelley, the chief executive of the DP World Tour, emphasized that these changes are designed to ensure a year brimming with drama and anticipation. Pelley remarked, “Our 2024 season will see our members come together to compete across a global schedule, with greater opportunities and rewards than ever before.”
The upcoming season’s itinerary features a minimum of 44 tournaments across five continents and 24 countries. The innovative structure involves five “global swings” scheduled from November 2023 to August 2024. Following this, a “back nine” stage will highlight the Tour’s most iconic events between September and October, leading up to the two DP World Tour Play-Offs in November.
The prestigious Rolex Series events will continue to be strategically spread across the season, with the Dubai Desert Classic launching proceedings in January, followed by the Scottish Open in July, and the BMW PGA Championship in September. Subsequently, the Abu Dhabi Championship and the grand finale, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, will conclude the season in November.
Keith Pelley emphasized that the enhancements introduced in the upcoming season will ensure an abundance of excitement for fans, broadcasters, and all stakeholders. He underlined the significance of the changes, asserting that they underline the competitive nature of each week in the DP World Tour, ultimately making the entire season more riveting than ever.
