Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged the club to sell Cristiano Ronaldo during the ongoing transfer season. Ronaldo has already shown his desire to leave the club as he wants to play in the Champions League.
In fact, Erik Ten Hag had recently stated that Ronaldo is not for sale and the club will look to hold on to him. However, Saha believes if Ronaldo doesn’t want to play for Manchester United, it is better to get rid of him.
As reported by the Athletic, Ronaldo has reiterated his desire to leave Manchester United and he is exploring the option of returning to Sporting Lisbon. As per the reports, Ronaldo wants to make a move to a Champions League club so that he can confirm his place as the tournament’s top scorer. Ronaldo had made his professional debut with the club back in 2002.
In fact, Ronaldo didn’t even travel with the team to Thailand and Australia for the preseason matches. The Portuguese pulled out of the club friendlies citing personal reasons.
In a recent interview, Saha said, “Yeah, if he doesn’t want to play for the club anymore, you have to get rid of him. He didn’t participate in the tour; he’s not been in training, so you have to show discipline.”
Saha understands Ronaldo’s point of view but at the same time, he feels it is a team sport and the disruption has to stop.
“He’s a world-class player so maybe his circumstances are unique but there is a limit to what you can take. The group needs to gel, it’s not an individual sport. I’m the biggest supporter of Cristiano, I understand his priorities but at some point, the disruption has to stop. You have to make a decision and I’m keen to see how it all plays out.”
On the other hand, Ronaldo was a top performer for Manchester United in the previous season as he scored 24 goals in 38 matches across all competitions.
