Buoyed by recent success this season and the potentiality for more, Barcelona manager Xavi has stated that he wants to be at Camp Nou all his life.
Xavi left Al Sadd in Qatar to become Barcelona’s coach on Nov. 6, 2021, to sign a contract till 2024. However, after an indifferent start to life at Camp Nou when they finished second on the table, he has turned the tide and fortunes of the club in his first full season.
Barcelona currently top the La Liga table and have a nine-point advantage over second-place Real Madrid. They may have crashed out of European competitions four times in the last year, but Xavi still has managed to help Barcelona win the Supercopa De Espana.
The former Barcelona player has admitted to the support of Barcelona president Joan Laporta as one of the key reasons for his recent success.
“The president is a friend. Barca are lucky to have a president like him. He is very reliable and talks face-to-face. For me, he’s a friend, but I prefer to have the results and then the renewal. This is not about money or years of the contract, but that I want the club to do well. I want to be at Barcelona all my life. It’s my home.” Xavi said.
Meanwhile, Joan Laporta is already preparing to offer Xavi a new contract, as his current contract is expected to end next year. Barcelona and Xavi are on the path to a domestic treble this season.
With fourteen games left in the season, Barcelona lead their rival with 9 points while they are 1-0 ahead of Real Madrid in the first leg of their Copa Del Rey semifinal fixture.
Barcelona are also the winner of the Supercopa after beating Real Madrid in the final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Blaugrana’s next game is against Athletic Club before the La Liga El Clasico next week.
