‘Would trade individuals awards only to replay the Champions League final’ – Mohamed Salah

Liverpool players are still wounded from their finals defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League finals as they lost 1-0 against the Spanish giants courtesy of a breakthrough goal from Vinicius Junior. The match had several topsy turvy moments with Thibaut Courtois making some sensational saves to keep out the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and others to earn the ‘Man of the match’ award. It was surely one of the best final performances from a player as he single handedly kept Los Blancos in the game time and again.

The Reds were waiting to avenge their defeat back in the 2018 Champions League finals against Real Madrid but they once again fell short. Salah, who unfortunately got injured in that game, was pumped to play this final but the defeat shattered him.

However, he posted on social media for the first time since the 1-0 defeat as he highlighted how individual awards do feel good as a player but he would trade off everything to replay the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

“Being recognised by the fans and by the sports journalists in the same season is something special that I will never forget. I would however give all those personal awards up for a chance at replaying that final, but that is not how football works,” Salah wrote on Twitter.

The Egyptian is currently going through talks about extending his stay at Liverpool whereas his partner in crime Sadio Mane is destined to leave Merseyside. The Senegalese is linked with a move away to Bayern Munich.

However Salah shared his emotions after losing out on yet another Champions League final in another tweet as he tried to jot down his feelings in words. He shared how he badly wanted to bring the trophy back to Anfield.

“I cannot express in words how much we wanted to bring that trophy back to Liverpool but in the end we couldn’t,” the 29-year-old added. “I cannot thank the fans enough for your support. It has been a very long season but a part of me wishes the next one starts again tomorrow.”

Currently the primary concern for Jurgen Klopp and the Reds is tying down Mohamed Salah at Anfield with a fresh contract as there were rumours of no talks being agreed since last December. But now things are looking quite smoother and hopefully the Egyptian will soon put pen to paper.
