West Ham United have been in splendid form this season in the Premier League and the players and their head coach David Moyes are very positive as they aim for a Champions League spot. The Hammers shocked Liverpool last night handing them their first loss of the season. An Alisson own goal, Pablo Fornal and Kurt Zouma stepped up in a 3-2 win for West Ham over Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Moyes’ men are now in the third position in the Premier League points table above Liverpool and only two points behind league leaders Chelsea. The game was set when Alisson made a blunder from a corner and handed them an early advantage. A lead in the fourth minute in such a match often proves to be detrimental in deciding the result.
Although Trent Alexander-Arnold and later Divock Origi tried their best to pull the game back, it was simply not enough. It was level at halftime with a 1-1 scoreline until Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals scored in the 67th minute to turn the tide in favour of the Hammers. Lastly, Kurt Zouma scored the insurance goal to seal the win for the London based outfit.
After tyhe match David Moyes was asked whether they can challenge for the title or not, to which he said, “I want to be really positive all the time, I would like to say that is what we can do. I don’t see that at the moment.
“We can challenge the top four but whoever they are I want to see if we can give us an opportunity, we missed out on Champions League football by two points [last season] so why can we not be there?
“We are not getting carried away but this is feeling good at the moment,” He told BBC Sports.
Later BBC framed the same questions to midfielder Pablo Fornals as he said, “I don’t know. It is too early to say. But fighting for each game as we did today, why not still [be] dreaming?”
