Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag was happy after their 4-2 win against Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. United once again found themselves chasing the game after Jayden Bogle scored the opener for the visitors.
However, Harry Maguire equalized for the Red Devils in the 41st minute. But the hosts once again found themselves under the cosh after Ben Brereton Diaz scored in the 50th minute.
Subsequently, United skipper Bruno Fernandes scored through a spot kick to equalize for his team. The Portuguese midfielder gave a 3-2 lead as he scored in the 81st minute. Rasmus Højlund then put the game to bed as he found the back of the net in the 85th minute.
When Ten Hag was asked afterward what new technical director Jason Wilcox would have made when he saw the club trail in the game on two occasions.
“I have seen a different game, sorry,” said Ten Hag. “We were totally in control.
“We can talk about two negatives – the goals – one due to focus, one due to lack of discipline. For the rest, I think we were in total control.
“We outplayed them. We were calm, didn’t let them run and had many connections, from one side to the other. Also, we did well defending and created a lot of chances.”
The Dutchman also lauded Bruno Fernandes for scoring a brace and leading from the front.
“Many positives today,” Ten Hag said. “The resilience to fight back after losing two times. But also there were negatives. We gave it away, it can’t happen, unacceptable, we have to learn from this.”
“He is really leading the team. I’m very happy with his performance,” a grateful Ten Hag said of his skipper.
